Our Story
At Heirloom Terrain we aim to help you find beauty in the ordinary by embracing every day living whether it’s laundry, dishes, or slow moments with sustainable lasting products allowing one to fully take in the present moment and live with intention. Our curated line of products are sourced from all around the world allowing one to delight in the skilled artisans’ creations, illustrating that each of us is unique and unrepeatable.
Since we got married about a decade ago, my husband and I have attempted to counterbalance the fast-paced reality of modern life by prioritizing presence. Slowing down to enjoy the people we are with and be open to curiosity and finding the beauty around us. This influences how we design our spaces, the products we use in our home, how we play with our children, and how we spend our time.
We began with humble beginnings in a small 1300 square foot cottage with limited storage. I desired this simple home to be full of delight and limited clutter. My first decade as a homemaker proved to be the best experience for me as a designer. It also provided me with the daily material to curate the Heirloom Terrain line of lasting artisan goods we feature today. As a busy young health care professional turned homemaker and growing mother I iteratively collected, used, and refined my pallet of design elements and daily living products.
In 2021, we had our third boy, and we were also pondering another dream—a new home. We landed on a big project. My husband and I had renovated our first home and a couple of others together, but nothing quite like this one. We set out to turn this tired 1970’s home into a Colonial Revival. While everything would be newly built or remodeled, we still wanted that old feel. We had so many things envisioned for the home—places to read, to create, to teach & form, to rest, to entertain, and gardens to grow & explore. We even envisioned how we’d accommodate our sons’ rehearsal dinners. Despite being told when I was a little girl that I wasn’t creative, I embraced taking on the design of my dream home on my own.
We’ve been able to share our home with countless other homemakers and their families both in person, online, and in design consults. It’s been my hope all along to help others make their house (a new one or their current) a home to prioritize presence in as well. It has been a surprise and joy how it has resonated with others. We’ve found a community who share our appreciation in the peace and order of the old, of the classic, of the timeless.
The timelessness & peace that allows us to be present to the moment can be amplified by surrounding our lives with beautiful simplicity or it can be cheapened and diffused by the disposable or the cluttered. Beauty raises our minds, hearts and souls. Simplicity brings about a calm peacefulness.
At Heirloom Terrain, it’s our mission to aid our community to embrace the intersection of simplicity, beauty, and order. Not for our own sakes but for those whom we know, love, serve, and share life with.
Gratefully
