Our Cut Flower Garden
Seeking beauty in the petals of life.
Joyful Bouquets cut from the garden
Tending a cut flower garden combines two things that bring me joy and fulfillment. This arrangement is 100% grown from our garden. Not only do I get to enjoy it's blooms twice--in the garden and in the home--but I get to delight in the whole process from seed selection and soil prep to seedling and the first bloom.
Creating your own cut flower garden
Choose an area with six or more hours of sun a day, some fertile ground, and access to irrigation. If your soil is poor, spread out some sandy loam and compost on top. Once your planting area is ready it's time to start seeds. For some seeds like zinnia's, sowing directly in the soil can be quite successful. For others like lisianthus, we'd recommend starting under grow lights with a warming mat long before the season starts. This cut flower garden has a mixture of annuals like statice and basil, as well as, perennials like yarrow and scabiosa.
Flowers grown for this arrangement:
- Zinnias: Pastel blend
- Lisianthus: White
- Phlox: Early Lavender Ice
- Basil: Sweet Thai
- Orlaya: White Finch
- Yarrow: Summer Pastels
- Statice: Pastel Mix
- Scabiosa: Black Knight
Joyfully,
